First Post with Nanasneedles HRW

Hi All:

First post from a new blogger with a focus on quilting from a newly retired IT Storage Consultant who has resurfaced her formerly used skills and working on machine quilting.  Goal and aim is to save others time and relay all the wonderful secrets that I have been finding.

This year I took two wonderful courses from Tiny Stitches in Atlanta to learn the "correct" ways and proven ways to quilt and two basic samplers.  However, first I jumped right into a weekend retreat with Debbie Caffey and completed a quilt top -- this enforced my need for a couple classes.

I have been taking Free-Motion Quilting Classes from craftsy with Leah Day to learn about and watch and expert do the FMQ patterns.  She has over 400 so one could choose any approach or style that is good at beginning stages and more advanced.

There is a Janome MC1000SE on which I quilt, a Brother Ellageo for embroidery, an older Viking for travel and a mini-Janome for teaching my two granddaughters.

So come along with me as I post my adventures with Nana and as I learn.    Have a great day today and pictures to follow.  Nanasneedles HRW

Pictures:  #1  First Square since retiring from the Tiny Stitches Retreat in early 2013 with Debbie Caffrey.  Quilt top will follow and other quilts done this year  (yes, decided to immerse myself to practice and "hone" skill sets.  It is fun now to see the "error of my ways" from the early days.  Come on along and go with me on these travels with Nanasneedles HRW.

Here is the top with the borders added -- this is for a special friend of mine.  Now the top is laying on a rug from Claire Murray (I just love her products) and you see that blues, aquas, red and corals are among my favorite colors.  Also, the colors of the ocean and sky.

As I also machine embroider quite a bit, I have combined these two skill sets into quilts for children as lap quilts.  Here are two  for my granddaughters where I learned a bit about the "correct" materials.  The first is done with afghan material thought it moved a bit when quilting with the aid of a dear friend before I purchased my Janome but thought you would enjoy the baby animals quilt.  Miss Skylar really liked it.   The quilt from my first sampler class was done for my older granddaughter Miss Karlyn.  As I mentioned Tiny Stitches, a shop in Marietta, GA where the great instructor Miss Melinda teaches us the basic skills (that combined with the second on advanced machine piecing were fabulous -- did I say that).

Okay now, hoped you liked this first blog.  Links will be posted and more journeys and travel with Nanasneedles to follow -- Have just a wonderful day and a new blessing each day.  Nana W
